There’s a lot to the maritime City of Uusikaupunki. In the city, you can feel the atmosphere of a southern European town by the sea as well as immerse yourself in the beautiful and historic milieu of the old wooden town. There are things to see and do for visitors of all tastes.
This small city on the west coast is like a well-kept secret. While tourists flock to many other summer towns, those in the know travel to ‘Uki’ (the local name for the city). In Uusikaupunki, you’ll find, among other things, the most exceptional sights in all of Finland, the best sugar ring doughnuts or the most distinctive Finnish sayings (e.g. “Ei mittä, hei”, which roughly translates as “Everything’s fine”).

As of March 2021, the business and economic development services of Uusikaupunki have published Ukilife.fi, an online magazine that highlights the life and lifestyle of Uusikaupunki’s residents. The website is aimed at not only current residents but also newcomers.
Residents who don’t speak Finnish are also an important target group, so the majority of the site’s articles are published in both Finnish and English. “With the bilingual publication, we reach a wider audience and we can introduce new residents to the heartbeat of our small city,” says Jarkko Heinonen, Director of Business and Economic Development.
