We are all shocked by the situation in Ukraine and the ensuing humanitarian catastrophe, which is only worsening. Delingua strongly condemns the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Like many other companies, Delingua is doing its share in response to the emergency. In addition to a donation, we have offered translation and interpreting assistance to refugees fleeing Ukraine, free of charge through charitable organisations. We have also recruited a record number of experts in the Ukrainian and Russian languages to respond to the need for translation and interpreting caused by the crisis.
For over a decade, Delingua has supported Translators without Borders, whose mission is to help people access vital information in their own language. In recent years, the organisation’s activities have expanded and it now has a new name: Clear Global.
Particularly in the middle of a crisis, it is crucial that there is reliable, accessible and fact-checked information available in different languages and formats that reaches everyone. Clear Global has taken action regarding the crisis in Ukraine and is now offering its expertise with enhanced efforts.
For example, Clear Global helps small local and charitable organisations in border regions communicate with those in need. There are about twenty minority languages spoken in Ukraine, and some of those fleeing are citizens of other countries who may not understand Ukrainian or Russian. In addition, Clear Global provides support and orientation to translators and interpreters working in the field and follows communications channels in different languages to deliver reliable information.
The organisation also provides information on languages. For example, it has published a map of the languages spoken in Ukraine and guidelines for interpreting in humanitarian catastrophes (in Polish and English). The guidelines can be useful for untrained interpreters in border regions, for example.
