The language service industry is very female-dominated, which is why we find it especially important to promote girls’ rights and equality. We have been cooperating with Plan International Finland since 2015. We want to be involved in supporting girls in developing countries because girls are the future.
Plan promotes the rights of the most vulnerable children and young people, especially girls. Plan carries out a lot of grassroots work for equality and children’s rights in places where equality is weakest. For instance, Plan organises health services, improves schooling opportunities and promotes legislative amendments aiming at the prohibition of child marriages and female genital mutilation, among other things. In Finland, Plan encourages people to work for the rights of children and girls.
Translations from around the world
Plan International Finland’s translation assignments include, for instance, press releases, blog posts by local experts, news from the field around the world and video subtitles. The global Plan International provides Plan International Finland with a lot of materials in English, French and Spanish, some of which Delingua translates into Finnish. Plan International Finland’s Communication Director Anna Könönen thanks Delingua for reacting quickly even in urgent translation assignments: “It’s great to cooperate with Delingua. Delingua always provides friendly service and quick responses to translation requests, which makes it easier for us to plan our own work.”
On girls’ side
International Day of the Girl will be celebrated on 11 October 2021. The purpose of the day is to promote girls’ rights and equality and to celebrate the power of girls. This year’s theme is girls’ right to correct information. Beliefs and lack of correct information maintain harmful norms and traditions in communities. For instance, child marriages are often due to the fact that they are wrongly associated with the chastity of girls and the honour of the family. The perception that girls are inferior to boys is also due to harmful norms and lack of knowledge. Plan wants to promote the distribution of correct information and the improvement of girls’ rights through the Day of the Girl campaign.
